Ampersand Live Streaming Festival October 30th (online)

A new short film commissioned by the Forterra Foundation

(past) Degenerate Art Ensemble is creating a new short film as part of the Forterra Foundation’s Ampersand Live event which will take place online on October 30th. Forterra has purchased and protected 250,000 acres of Washington wild lands to preserve for our future. Support this event and support their heroic efforts. Tickets and information: HERE

New work in development at CAC

(past) Degenerate Art Ensemble’s collaboration with Colorado based sculptor Senga Nengudi and Cincinnati based musician Eddy Kwon will be under development at the Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center with a premiere scheduled for 2021.

Artists in Residence at Colorado College 11/3 - 11/17

Collaboration with artists Senga Nengudi and Eddy Kwon

(past) Degenerate Art Ensemble artistic directors Haruko Crow Nishimura and Joshua Kohl are engaging in a multi year collaboration with Colorado based visual and performance artist Senga Nengudi and Cincinnati based violinist and vocalist Eddy Kwon. The artists will be in residence at Colorado College November 3-17 and are working towards an exhibition at the Fine Art Center in Colorado Springs and a multi-media performance at Colorado College in 2021.

September 21st SKELETON FLOWER BAND Album Release Concert

The debut of the Skeleton Flower Band with guests Fruit Juice, Tomo Nakayama & Tiger Tails

(past) Skeleton Flower the band emerged from Degenerate Art Ensemble's theatrical production of the same name which premiered earlier this year. Skeleton Flower the band is an art-rock quintet that might draw comparisons to Bjork, Grizzly Bear, Deerhoof, Rubble Bucket, Blonde Redhead and Dirty Projectors. The songs are filled with complex rhythmic guitar lines, hard hitting drums and catchy melodic vocals. This event will mark both the group's debut and the release of their brand new self titled album.

March 13-17 Skeleton Flower World Premiere

Official World Premiere of Skeleton Flower March 13-17 2019

(past)Degenerate Art Ensemble will premiere their newest work Skeleton Flower in Seattle, WA followed by national and international venues TBA. The premiere will also coincide with the release of a Virtual Reality film of the same name. The official world premiere will take place at the Erickson Theatre in Seattle. Tickets will be available here in November. Portland dates to be announced shortly.

(past) Dancing Embodiment / HARUKO CROW NISHIMURA Investigate the subtle and extreme manifestations of our energies, discover how to work with them, follow our curiosity and find ways to go deeper into even the simplest of our movements and gestures. Saturday August 5th 9-11am at Seattle's Velocity Dancer Center's Kawasaki Studio. Drop-ins welcome ($20). There will be a performance on August 3rd at 5:30 pm along with Joe Goode, Angie Hauser and Chris Aiken at the Erickson Theater in Seattle (TICKETS are $10 at the door at the Erickson Theater 1524 Harvard Avenue).

December 2 2016 8pm PRAGUE, Czech Republic

Collaboration with Czech Rock legends Uz Jsme Doma

(past) Degenerate Art Ensemble's Joshua Kohl collaboration with Czech rock legends Uz Jsme Doma to reimagine the band's 30 years of music as an orchestral suite.  Kohl's orchestral compositions and arrangements explore the band's complex work and included the band as well as the voice of DAE's Crow Nishimura. Also two new arrangements of DAE songs will be featured. The work was performed with the South Bohemian Philharmonic in Prague in December of 2016.  The work will be presented in the US in the fall of 2018.

Predator Songstress at On The Boards

(past) Predator Songstress is an intensely visual, music-driven fantastical tale that traces the struggle of an anti-heroine in search of the reclamation of her stolen voice. This modern day fairy tale explores what it means to have a voice, to lose ones voice and to rediscover it with a new understanding of its power. The work is set in a world where the tools often used by the powerful to stifle and control are re-appropriated as means for individual realization.
